#P90X Day 46: Yoga, Imbalance and A-game Status Quo
Yesterday P90X was put on the back burner – intentionally. Later last week a friend of my family’s passed away mush unexpectedly and the weekend was spent in a mixture of actual business work, offering support to the grieving and attending the memorial service.
This morning, I got up at 4:30 to hit Yoga X was a passion. I was sleepy, but prepared for greatness. Only thing is, somebody forgot to tell greatness that I was coming. He left me all alone this morning.
For starters, I was tight. Not unusual for a morning workout. The moving asanas are great for getting the body limber. I always love how flexible I end up being after yoga, you know? By the end of those asanas, my heels easily hit the floor in that last Downward Dog. I’m able to get my toes just the tiniest bit off the ground. I dig it. Makes me feel like I’m not a complete dolt compared to my wife’s insane dancer flexibility.

I like this pose, but I struggle with it more than any other pose.
MOVING ASANA HIGHLIGHTS
My balance was pretty good throughout all the asanas. I continue to be successful in Right Angle Pose w/ Grab and Half Moon. I find that the two moves I struggle in the most here are Warrior Three and Standing Splits. I just can’t seem to stay balanced in Warrior Three, no matter where my arms are – out front or behind. Standing Splits are tough because I feel like when I twist my hip out (as instructed) I put undue stress on my hip joint and I can feel the surrounding muscles freak out and I end up coming out of the pose for fear of pulling the muscle.
Random Yoga Thought: One of THE best feelings in the world is when you come out of Right Angle Pose w/ Grab. The moment I go back into Plank is like Heaven. Am I right?

Royal Dancer: I like this pose, but it's tough for me to maintain.
BALANCE POSES
Note here how I did not title this section BALANCE POSE HIGHLIGHTS. There were none. For whatever reason, I failed epically on the balance poses today. Not even my first day of Yoga did I perform this poorly. The only pose that I was able to maintain for over 50% of the time allotted was Tree. Royal Dancer, Standing Leg Hold and even Crane were just awful. I kept falling out. I had no focus and each tumble made my thoughts even more scattered. I’m norally very strong in Crane, but today….nothing. I fell out 4 times. My saving grace for the workout was Yoga Belly 7.
I can see that my core is getting stronger. My lower back is able to stay straight, allowing my chest to stay up while I work on Boat in all its variations. I think Superman poses have a lot to do with that as well as the deadlift moves in Legs & Back.
Finally, I’m noticing that my flexibility in Frog just keeps getting better and better. I love that pose. Hurt like hell the first time, but now it’s incredibly relaxing and fun to keep working my hips/joints. I love it! Soon I’ll be like Phil the Karate Man, only not as muscley….yet.
TOTAL YOGA X CALORIE BURN: 750
(Really down from previous days. I think my body was still waking up.)
