#P90X Day 27: Yoga X

Twisting Half Moon
Yoga last night was interesting. My balance was much improved from last week, but man did I have a helluva time getting into the groove of things. The first 20 minutes I felt like I was fighting against cement to get my body into all the right positions. I will say this, however, Core Synergistics having only done it twice has improved my ability to be fluid in and out of chataranga. It wasn’t hard before, but I was always able to at least feel that I was in the movement. This time, in and out of chataranga during the vinyasas was easy peasy, almost as though I couldn’t feel it.
Felt very accomplished in that regard.
MOVING ASANAS
I still struggle tremendously with the the final step of the right angle pose (or the end of Warrior Three, possibly), where you reach behind your back and then reach under your thigh and clasp hands. I can’t actually bend like that. My wife thinks it is due to the muscle I’ve developed in my back since starting this. She may be right, but I honestly have no idea.
That’s the only genuinely tough part of the moving asanas for me. They all work my body quite well, but for the most part my ability to move fluidly from position to position is better with each Yoga session.
Finally, one pose that i fear will always give me trouble is the half moon. I can’t get my hips to move out at all. every time I try, they pull. Oddly enough, I can do the twisting half moon very easily and get a lot of good balance out of it.
STATIC POSES
Royal Dancer is something I nailed on day 1 of Yoga, but have failed at every day since. Not last night. Last night, I felt solid in my balance on this move. I took it slow and found my pace.
Still struggle with Boat in Yoga Belly 7. Working hard to be able to straighten my legs completely while in the air. Once that’s solid, I know getting a straight back will be an easy next step.
Crane is one of my favorite moves. My wife won’t try it, but I love working to be able to hold the pose for 60 seconds. I was able to at one point (before I started P90X), when I was working to master the Planche Pushup.
I don’t know what was different about this workout, but my calorie count was off the charts for Yoga.

I’ll be honest, man. I was anticipating in the 700s. During this first month, I’ve seen a consistent drop off, or an adaptation rather, of my heart rate to all the exercises — having to push my self harder each time to keep up that heart rate. So, when I got out of the Lotus Position (the final pose), I checked my HR and the total was 940.

Couldn’t believe it! However, there was a big wet spot on the yoga mat. My clothes were soaked almost completely. I guess the first 1/2, the moving asanas, took their toll. I did try to focus very diligently on keeping my breathing steady, which, as a result, though I appeared calm, there was a lot going on.
Let me say kudos for making the move towards doing P90X! I’m not a coach or a sales rep or anything like that. I’m just a guy who wanted to change up his workouts and do something new. I look forward to hearing about the progress you and your wife make with it. I know if you stick with it you won’t be disappointed.
Cheers.
