#P90X Day 22: Yoga X

Yoga X

I'll take "Yoga X" for $200, Alex.

Even in the midst of all the stretching, good diet and recovery I’m trying to immerse myself in, it seems I’ve just royally messed with this small part of my left hamstring. It’s unbelievable sore, but only when I use it. If I’m just sitting in a chair, I won’t feel a thing, but if I get up and active the hammy, BAM — feels like there is a hole in my leg about the size of a quarter.

With that knowledge, I was actually looking forward to Yoga X as a way to help further my recovery of the left hamstring. Boy, was I wrong. I didn’t do any further injury to it, but every move requiring my left hamstring as 10x tougher than it has ever been. Balance was near impossible to be consistent, and some of the static poses I couldn’t get into completely because I couldn’t straighten my left leg completely.

So, I fought through as best I could. Wasn’t really pleased with my performance, but I know I was working from a disadvantage. I think by the mere existence of such a disadvantage is what made me so upset about it all.

There was a substantial upside to last night’s Yoga X endeavor, and that was my supreme performance in a$$-kicking Yoga Belly 7! Heck ya! I was strong all the way through and finished the final 3-phase set with intensity. Really pleased with my ab success here. My real struggle with the Yoga Belly 7 is keeping my chest up and back straight when I’m doing all the versions of Boat. I can get leg height OR straight back, but both at the same time is tough for me.

DAILY LIFE:

Since I lost “Fat Nathan,” I’ve been really fortunate to find out how therapeutic exercise is for me. If I have a rough day, a good workout often is just what I need to snap my mind back to what’s truly important and allow me to be the husband, servant and worker I need to be.

Yesterday was just such a day. I had a horrid day at work and, to say the least, felt terribly dejected about my abilities as a web designer. The Yoga X workout was perfect for shedding that stress. It just fell right off as I focused on the tasks at hand.

It just goes to show that there is more to getting fit than just getting fit. It helps focus the mind along with the body. I daresay the spirit as well.
