P90X Day 13: Kenpo X

Kenpo X. It does a body good.
Tonight I had a special guest with me on the workout. Mr H. Thomas Rye. He’s been a long-time and valued friend. He is currently the fittest man I know. Let me tell you a little bit about my boy, Thomas. He’s a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Kenpo, he has successfully completed multiple triathlons here in the Kansas City area for his not-for-profit fundraising organization, Triathletes for Transformation. He completed last year’s 2009 Kansas City Half-Marathon. He’s a world traveler and has a passion for helping those less fortunate than himself.
He is a giving man and a devoted follower to all he submits himself to. He’s my friend and I was proud to have worked out with him tonight.
That being said…….
WE TORE IT UP!!! Having someone there in much better shape than I am really pushed me to press on past my previous goals and accomplishments. It’s what Thomas and I like to call, “Reinventing Your A-Game”. And tonight I did just that. During Kenpo X, Thomas helped me work on form, quality and force of my movements and made the whole 50 minutes much more intense. We punched. We kicked. We ran in place. We did the X’s. We did the horse stance until our legs burned and then we did the horse stance some more. It was fantastic workout overall. I honestly think it is the easiest of all the P90X workouts I’ve done so far, but it is so incredibly fun, highly energetic and it boosted my calorie burn by 100+ calories over last Kenpo workout. I really felt like I did “Bring It” tonight for Kenpo X.
But feeling like I brought it then shortly fell by the wayside when Thomas and I began Ab Ripper X. Tonight I knew it would be tough and I just wanted to rock it out give it my best — and I had no idea what that meant.
My best, as it turned out meant that I would complete every single ab routine, all 25 reps, without stopping, except for the Mason Twists (My feet hit the floor at 32 and I rested for 2 seconds at that point)!!! I was pumped and my abs were screaming.

Ab Ripper X: Mason Twists. I hate it, but I love it.
As Peter Griffin might say, “It was friggin’ sweet!” What a feeling of accomplishment. I was able to rock out the reverse bicycles and the fifer scissors completely with far less trouble than I had previously. And I completed the Wide-leg Cross-over Situps sitting with my legs crossed for all 25 reps! Couldn’t believe it!!
The next step for me is to get my hands up in the air for those beginning sets. Then I want to really work to get some height on the V-ups.
