P90X Day 3: Shoulders & Arms

Shoulders & Arms was good times!

Shoulders & Arms was good times!

Day 3 & Day 4 actually are the same day, but I’ll address each workout with individual posts. I doubled up on the workouts Saturday. I did Shoulders & Arms in the morning and then did Yoga X in the evening. My goal is to try and catch up so that come Tuesday I’ll be ready for Day 8.

But I digress….

Shoulders & Arms, thus far, has been the easiest of the workouts. I say that with the thinking that the workout wasn’t easy necessarily, but it was easier to complete than Chest & Back. This time I used a combination of resistance bands and some dumbbells, which I only used for the bent over tricep extensions.

The workout is set up in 5 or 6 (can’t remember which) circuits of 3 exercises that are done done twice. It went: shoulders, biceps, then triceps. Rinse and repeat. It was a great combination.

Relying heavily on the resistance bands was frustrating at first, but having spent an entire workout with them, I’ve started to get a feel for how to set my bands and how to work with looping them on the ground to increase the tension and toughen the workout.

Following the workout was, of course, Ab Ripper X. I was actually still sore from the first time I did the ab routine, but gave it my all anyway. The soreness from my plyometric workout made the first two ab sets challenging, but I was able to finish out and preform strong through the ab routine since I now had a feel for what each workout entailed.

For the entire workout (shoulders & amrs, ab ripper x) I burned 937 calories. I was pretty pleased with that as the only time I really started to sweat was when I did the Ab Ripper X workout.
